Blueberry-Lemon Coffee Cake

Happy Easter! This coffe cake looks divine. Celebrate the day and have a good weekend. Cheers!!

Christina's avatarSweet Pea's Kitchen

In Sweet Pea’s Kitchen big holiday celebrations are always kicked off bright and early starting with a big breakfast. Whether we are devouring cinnamon rolls, quiches, frittatas, scones or coffee cakes it’s all about coming together and celebrating the day. Coffee cakes are one of my favorite breakfast treats to make not only for holidays, but lazy weekends as well. They come together pretty quickly and taste just as great at room temperature as they do straight out of the oven. Unfortunately that isn’t always great when you are trying to watch what you eat and every time you walk into the kitchen you see a big chunk of coffee cake just calling your name. 😉 And let me just warn you, this coffee cake is going to be really hard to resist! Moist and tender cake bursting with plump blueberries, topped with a streusel topping and…

This Sunday is Easter; one of the most important holidays and notorious for brunch and Easter Egg hunts! I love how Easter allows everyone to wear brights and pastels you even see the boys donning pastels here and there. With color on-trend  this Spring season there are more stylish choices than ever to wear a fun chic outfit on Easter Sunday. Let’s go over a few Easter Sunday scenarios!

Sunday Brunch

One of the most popular days for brunch is Easter Sunday. This usually means right after church people will head straight to brunch buffets. The trick with that is looking chic and appropriate for church at the same time.

The Outfit: I suggest a fun patterned or colored dress. A maxi dress is great for comfort and style. Pair the dress with a cardigan.

Banana Bars with Cream Cheese Frosting

Oh… Wow… These look so good! Once again I’m reading a lot of food blogs! Happy Friday. Cheers everyone.

Christina's avatarSweet Pea's Kitchen

Incredibly moist and delicious banana bars topped with a luscious cream cheese frosting that’s certain to brighten anyone’s day. These banana bars are incredible…of course it is hard to go wrong when something is topped with a thick layer of creamy cream cheese frosting. Especially when that something is a moist and flavor packed banana bar. These bars get an extra boost of banana flavor by adding a splash of banana extract. Make sure you use really ripe banana in this dessert to get the best flavor. You know, those bananas that you are embarrassed to have out on your kitchen counter so you hide them in your pantry only to find them a week later? Yeah those bananas. The bananas that are so spotted and black you wonder if you should just throw them away? That’s them! 😉

Crack Brownies

Okay, I’m going full-on bad with these brownies!! They look so good which tells me I need a sugar fix– ha. Guess it is better that I’m shopping for food rather than eating it right now. Especially so late at night. Happy Baking tomorrow! Cheers!

One week till, ahem, Schooooools out. For. Summer!

Craziness! I still have exams till the end of April (dear lord) but things are finally coming to an end! Every year it happens the same way, too. It will be early second semester, it’s crappy weather and you want to die you hate school so much, you pray for reading break to come faster, then all of a sudden you realize there is a month left. The weather, though rainy and poopy right now, is at least warm, and when the sun does peak out, is glorious! Time to break out the shorts!

I have also realized that I have an addiction. No, not anything serious, but definitely dangerous to my figure. I can’t seem to stop baking brownies. In all variations. I don’t know what it is, but I constantly am thinking of how to create the ultimate gooey, chewy…

Wardrobe Inspiration

Check out these inspirational closets. I live in a small space myself so it’s fun seeing how “other people” do it. Always a challenge for me to stay on top of the clutter. Cheers!

love aesthetics

I looove seeing other people’s wardrobes and I love reorganising mine and am always searching for a better system. Maybe because it involves thinking about both fashion and decorating… I’m not sure. I guess the big challenge when it comes to storing pretty much anything, but especially clothes, is fitting everything into a confined space while balancing aesthetics with practicality (meaning you can see everything and take items out easily, etc). I like any kind of open storage; especially things like clothes and jewellery are very decorative and too pretty to hide behind closet doors. I think maybe a lot of space for hangers and some drawers for smaller things and accessories would be the ideal system for me. I would also love to have a separate clothing rack to organise my favourite items of the moment and plan outfits.

Splurge vs. Save: YSL Tribute

My answer– I would rather save! By the way, I really like this $49 version of a stylish shoe. Bravo! (Now I might have some money left over for a pretty pedicure….)

whatimwearingnow's avatarWhat I'm Wearing Now.

YSL is always known for its classic styles. I personally love their Tribute platform heels but could not afford it ($795). The closest pair of shoes I found is from Charles & Keith ($49).

What do you think? Would you rather splurge, or save?

Inspiration: Ideas for recycling vintage book pages

I love the idea of recycling old/vintage paper and pages from books. This totally gave me an idea to re-cover a cute box I have “hidden” in a cupboard right now. I think I could use some vintage book pages to make it a pretty & decorative addition to my home desk area. Maybe an idea for a future post of my own. Cheers & Happy Upcycle Friday! –jody

See this Anthropologie painting? It’s to blame for my vintage-paper-crafts-craze lately. I pinned it on Pinterest some time ago, hoping that with time I will build up the creative force to go in this direction.

I’m the kind of gal who likes to sleep on things. I started to arbitrarily collect photos and tutorials from around the net with ideas of how to recycle vintage/old paper. I noticed you can do a lot of things with pages from old books: Decoupage, handmade tags, envelopes, scrap-booking, garlands, and so many other ideas.

In a previous post, I spoke about “Recycling, upcycling vintage books”. It was about sketching illustrations while using vintage paper as your canvas.

Here are a few ways to re-use an old book in so many other different ways…

Envelopes look so chic when they are obviously from some old book.

Buffalo Exchange – Hillcrest

Need something fun to wear? Need an infusion of hip & cool in your wardrobe? Definitely give Buffalo Exchange a try. It’s a thrift store with oh-so hipster fashionable inventory. From what I understand they are a bit on the choosy side about what they take in– which is fine because the stuff on the floor is pretty much awesome. I found some fantastic wristlets and fun shoes. Everything was color coordinated and fairly organized considering this place was packed with clothes! The day I was there it was hard to move around because there were so many shoppers in the store.

DIY – Wooden Cigar Box Transforms into Jewelry Box

Do you have too much jewelry and not an organized place to keep it all? I found myself in a similar situation– jewelry stashed in random places to the point I had to “search” for what I wanted to wear. Well, I came up with a stylish DIY project last weekend while strolling thru Kobey’s Swap Meet in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego.

Tucked in the midst of random odd household items I found the I Liquidate table featuring some fantastic cigar boxes. You read that right– cigar boxes. I purchased a total of 3 wooden cigar boxes and the owner threw in a freebie– I spent $10. I figured this would be an excellent was to re-use something that might be thrown in the trash. The boxes were surprisingly sturdy and of good quality.

The stack of boxes looks really cute tucked in my living room cabinet. I secured some felt to line the boxes (price: Free) so my jewelry will be protected. This was a super quick & easy project. It took maybe 30 minutes to line the boxes with the felt. Probably the biggest time-consuming part of the whole thing was deciding which jewelry would be placed in which box (decisions!).

Baras Foundation Thrift Store – $2.39 Purses & Shoes –

Organized chaos– well, almost organized and very chaotic. I like my bargains and this place definitely delivers. And– they even have some semblance of a Plus sized selection. I was overjoyed to find $2.39 purses and shoes and $4.79 pants. Sure, it smells a little musty and there were some mighty odd people milling about– but who cares when the bargains are this good. Upstairs in the book section I found paperbacks for $0.50 and hardcovers $1.25. The kitchenwares section was packed full of goods and the furniture was decent too. Every Tuesday they have some kind of a different promo- this Tuesday the deal is $0.25 Dishes.

A big shout-out to the store manager Theresa extremely friendly and helpful. She was kind enough to write down the store address and give me a full rundown on weekly deals and promos. From what Theresa tells me on the 2nd Tuesday of each month the kids clothes ring up at $0.10. Yup- the kids clothes are a dime (regular price on kids clothes$0.59 still a good deal). This store is huge and there is tons of stuff packed in there. Be ready to dig and expect the unexpected. Here are a few things I found:
