I’m a single mom so the word “budget” is in my blood. In the past there were times when I wasn’t sure the rent would get paid, which means money for something new at the mall was definitely out of the question. We shopped second hand stores, the dented can warehouse for food and played outside at the park a lot because it was free.
When the vacuum cleaner quit working we fixed it with parts we bought at the local swap meet and when my son misplaced his jacket on the playground we went to the Goodwill store and replaced it for $0.25.
I’ve been living on a budget and shopping the sale racks for so long it’s become a habit. My son is 19 years old now and ready to join the military but the thrift shopping, coupon clipping mentality stuck with me. I’m hoping it serves me well in retirement too!
My blog has blossomed into a place to share money saving ideas, to share thrift shopping finds and to empower my readers not to overspend.
Let’s keep it simple, thrifty and stylish in 2015!
Very nice blog.
thanks for the follow! 🙂 love the blog! x
This sounds like a really practical cool idea. It can be so hard to downsize when you looooove retail therapy. 😉 Following!
I can’t wait to follow your blog, it looks awesome! Great idea for a blog, and thanks for stopping by mine!
What a great blogging idea. I’ve a friend who I’ve been encouraging to write something similar. She shops almost everyday and finds the greatest treasures. I’ll turn her onto this. I’m sure she’ll enjoy it as much as I do. And thanks, by the way, for commenting on my First Impressions over at 20 Lines A Day. 🙂
I do most of my shopping at the Salvation Army store…and have committed myself to doing a one for one kind of thing; donating an item for each item I buy.
BTW, thanks for dropping by my place.
I love the Salvation Army stores myself. I like the thrill of the chase- digging thru the bins- ha.
Great blog – glad I found you! Thanks for linking to my U-T mall deals roundup this week. Do you have a Twitter account and if so, how do I follow you?
AWESOME! I love consignment shopping for my little kids. E-bay also has the best deals on boutique clothing. However, the clutter in my life is another story. Help!
I have a strict rule now that if I buy something then I have to,get rid of something. I’ve been known to have a clutter habit too.
Good Morning Sunshine!

Your blog is great!! Cheers 🙂
Thank you! Have an awesome evening 🙂
Hello Jody,
Thanks for dropping by my blog. I’m still shopping at SA, and I have to wander over there sometime soon. We’re on our way to take a cruise in a few weeks and I need some Kroozin’ Cloze. I also have a bag of stuff to give ’em.
Thanks, again!

Your blog is great! Happy shopping and have fun on your cruise. Sounds relaxing. We are having record high heat here in San Diego right now so im going to the beach this weekend for sure. Cheers!
Hi! I’m Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a fitness/diet app and site. I found your blog yesterday and it captured my interest!
I’m contacting you b/c we’re about to release a fitness tracker (similar to FitBit) early next year, and are looking for bloggers who would be interested in getting 1 for free to review when it is out (negative or positive).
Would you be interested in doing this? You can email me at: sue (at) slimkicker (com) with ‘Review’ in the email heading if you are.
For your info, our site SlimKicker basically turns your fitness/diet goals into a level-up RPG game. The tracker will work in conjunction the website, and allow people to track calories burned and number of steps they walk automatically. The more they exercise, the more points they rack up! That’s basically how it will work.
Anyway, hope to hear back either way…
– Sue
P.S. You can choose not to display this comment as this is more of a private comment 🙂
I’m definitely interested in doing this. I’ll email you tonite. -Jody
Great to find another thrifty kindred spirit!
What is your most fabulous recent purchase? For me– the $7 jeans I wear all the time lately.
I’m hoping to visit a few shops this weekend too. Cheers and hope all is well. Your blog is great by the way.
Someone told me Jody, that you have just become the latest member of The Spikey’s, that small clan of folk known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂
Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.
My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures since the 70′s, as well as day to day happenings on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it. Of course, if you have any suggestions for me, I’d love to hear from you, serious.
In return, I promise not to be overbearing with perhaps 2-3 posts a day tops. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.
Thanks again for your vote of confidence, and hope you have a great day…

Jody,

Thanks again, Becky
I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers!
Whenever I have spare time it is my hobby to read various blogs on wordpress & each time one or more blog which makes my day!
Today it is your blog made my day!
Why I am specifically writing is; I thoroughly appreciate your idea!
Because the more material possessions we have the more unhappy we becomes, though it is my personal opinion!
It is my mission in 2015 to continue to downsize my “stuff”. Happy New Year – and remember to reduce, reuse, recycle!! Cheers 😄
Sure; it should be mission of every living human being on this planet.
Wow!! Amazing blog! But, then, “I don’t love shopping.” Said no woman ever! I look forward to your reading your posts! 🙂
My mom’s the same though not single but life is hard here and if you don’t watch the money carefully, you may end up in a huge debt. I liked that my mom manages our house and how she taught us that but you need to make something for yourself every once in a while because as you said “it’s become a habit”.
You must be a great mom and you will be rewarded very soon. Keep it up. Have a great New Year full of achievements. 🙂
Many Thanks for following naturestimeline, much appreciated.
Best Wishes
Tony Powell
